about

BANG! Straight in with the words on this one, a new thing for me actually. This is the slowest song on the album but it's all about worshipping at the church of Tony Iommi. Black Sabbaths Heaven and Hell is one of my favourite albums ever and the title track on that album opens up with a huge riff and ends with a lovely piece of acoustic guitar picking. We haven't "quoted" it the way a jazz band would but we have written a similar part in tribute but it fits the song.

Lyrically it tells the tale of Nero killing his newest wife Sabina (who is rumored to have been pregnant with his heir) and he kicked her to death and has his men find someone who looks like the empress. The men returned with a teenage boy who was castrated and dressed as Sabina so that the remaining devotees of Neros Rome don't also turn their back on him.
The plan fails and Nero asks a servant to aid in his suicide telling the servant "I give you your final duty, then you are free"

Even in death he believes he has outwitted the senate.

lyrics

How times are changing
My life hath grown so dim
my wife is an adolescent boy
castrated skin to skin
he stands in place of Sabina
my one time slave of love
I took him from a family house
and his mothers love
I came home from the races
the smell of wine of my breath
my empress came to me in rage
with a knife pressed to her breast
my heir inside the womans womb
the bloodline pessimus
in a rage I engage
and kick her to death

"Ugh!"

Now the boy is standing
on the pulpit of a Goddess
wearing my wifes clothes
but the crowd grow unimpressed
for fooled not be my people
who genuflect at me
I feel as though my time has come
the incestuous spirit of mother
haunts my morning mind
as the son arises
by a servant I will die
I will ask him to kill me
so I control my fate
let the senate know
that they're slow and the are too late
And my minds made up, I now seek death
for changing seasons bring more unrest
this is my manic euthanasia (X4)
