about

Before I say anything about the lyrics I would like to mention that this track contains my personal favourite guitar solo on the album, but can you guess which one?

Lyrically this is an interesting song because it is sort of more like two songs glued together. The second half of the song has an alternate chorus musically but the a revised chorus lyrically.

The lyrics are my attempt to depict the first (attempt_ and final (successful) efforts made by Nero to kill his mother.
By now Agrippina is a bitter and twisted old woman, her beauty faded and she removes her gown to expose her naked body to the two men sent to kill her and utters her final words "Stab me in my wretched womb..."

lyrics

Welcome to the greatest theatre
It's wilder than your dreams
representing my power
is my mother it would seem
wrapped up tight every night
in a blanket of resentment
I question the wisdom of the Gods
for the mother they have sent

CHORUS
Stab me in my wretched womb
which birthed my bastard son
Years and years of wasted youth
I put into the ungrateful one

To Neros villa I sent my servant
to tell my son I'm alive
even though in my heart
I knew it was him behind
the plan hatched to take my life
So he could have his girls
My mother has tried to take my life
and I shall have revenge

Kill me, you cowards
Stab me, you bastards
Kill me, you cowards
Stab me, you bastards
